Art Exhibit Call for Submissions
Visions of Seeds
Deadline: September 1st 2018
Native Immigrant creates bridges between Indigenous peoples and immigrants to inspire love for the land. We do this through artistic and cultural events. You are invited to submit your artwork to our Autumn 2018 international beadwork exhibition entitled Visions of Seeds. All applicants, from anywhere in the world, will be accepted. We will exhibit your artwork at Atelier d’art Métèque in Montréal from September 30th to October 14th 2018. Nico Williams, an Anishinabek contemporary beadwork artist, will exhibit his work in a solo show at the same time.
We’re exploring the following: What nourishes you? Is it art? Love? Strawberry fields in summertime? The theme is inspired by the Mohawk concept of "tionnhehkwen" or that which is "instrumental for life - seeds of life". Ateronhiatakon Francis Boots, Mohawk Chief and traditional practitioner, shared this knowledge with fellow members of Native Immigrant.
We invite you to create art with objects and stories about nourishment, “perhaps helping us find the moment of loss of what feeds us” (Boots).
Deadline for submission: September 1st 2018
Medium: Although the focus is on beadwork pieces, all other forms of expression of your visions of seeds are welcome, including: painting, drawing, textile work, photography, mixed media, performance.
Size: 6”x6” (larger works must be retrieved by artist)
Submission: In person or by regular mail: Atelier d’art Métèque | 5442 Chemin Cote Saint Luc | Montréal, QC H3X 2C5
Details: Include an information sheet with your name, artwork title, year, dimensions, and medium. Include or send by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) a text of 50 - 100 words (in the language of your choice) about yourself as an artist, your visions of seeds and what nourishes you, and/or the work you are submitting. We will mail your artwork back to you after the exhibition.
