Fabio Villalba

Montreal industrial designer of Colombian origin, after his studies in Bogota he decided to return to the north coast of his country to study jewelry with his family. In 2003, he created his own jewelry signature called “Fabio Villalba \ Filigrane Contemporain”. Thanks to the innovation that represented their work at the time, he was hired by the governments of Colombia, Peru and Spain to give design workshops to different associations of jewellers between 2004 and 2010.

In 2011, he emigrated to Quebec to expand his creative universe and his clientele. Between 2013 and 2020, he exhibited their jewelry in various fairs in Canada and his jewelry was exhibited and sold in various Museum stores in North America such as the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts store and the Coral Gables store in Miami.

Art

Fabio Villalba's jewelry is made with a technique called "Filigrane", this is part of a family tradition so the artist is the 4th generation. The technique consists of interlacing and working by hand very fine threads of silver and gold. Through design, Fabio has evolved the existing aesthetic repertoire of traditional filigree jewelry made by his family and he proposes a new style based on a more contemporary vision of jewelry without forgetting tradition. Their creative universe is always influenced by nature and architecture. The exhibition "Between Two Rivers" shows how living between two geographical territories has influenced the artist's work over the past ten years.
